2 Hong Kong Airlines separately reported mid-flight issues on Easter Sunday

A Hong Kong Airlines flight from Bangkok to Hong Kong developed a technical issue during the flight and was forced to return to Bangkok not long after taking off on Sunday.

The report said that Flight HX780 with over 200 passengers on board was arranged to fly from Bangkok to Hong Kong at around 2 am local time.

Following the information from flight tracking websites, the Airbus A330-300 twin-jet aircraft circled airspace shortly after take-off at about 2.25 am and in due course turned back to Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Hong Kong Airlines said the flight experienced a “technical issue” shortly after take-off, without elaborating.

“To follow safety protocols, the flight immediately returned to Bangkok airport and landed safely at the airport with no one on board injured.”

The same-day flight was arranged back to Hong Kong for the passengers, the Hong Kong airlines said.

“At the same time, hotel accommodation was provided for waiting passengers to rest,” it added. “We thank the passengers for their understanding.”

Hong Kong Airlines said the incident was reported to the due authority.

Also, the report from Airport Authority Hong Kong said the flight that was expected to land at 5.55 am in Hong Kong on Sunday which is its original time was more than 16 hours late and eventually arrived at 10.30 pm.

However, another flight incident involving Greater Bay Airlines flight HB341 carrying 152 passengers and eight crew members departed Osaka Kansai International Airport and was scheduled to arrive in Hong Kong at 4.55 pm,  SCMP reported.

The Airport Authority Hong Kong said it received a report at about 5.20 pm that suspected cracks in the cockpit windscreen were found, and the crew requested authorities to conduct a "local standby".

The term refers to a situation where an aircraft approaching an airport is known or suspected to have developed a defect, but the issue does not pose a significant difficulty in making a safe landing.

The plane landed safely at the north runway at about 5.45 pm.
