Law enforcement agencies in Hong Kong launched a large-scale operation to combat drug-related activities over the Christmas and New Year period. The operation resulted in the resolution of 80 cases and the arrest of 88 men and 19 women, ranging in age from 14 to 63.
The suspects are believed to have committed offenses such as manufacturing, trafficking, and possession of dangerous drugs, as well as possessing tools for drug abuse and driving under the influence of drugs.
During the operation, law enforcement seized a total of 73 kilograms of illicit substances, including cocaine, heroin, ketamine, cannabis, and methamphetamine. These drugs have an estimated street value of HK$27 million. Authorities noted that among those arrested, 12 were young people aged 20 or below, primarily apprehended for possessing or trafficking dangerous drugs. The youngest individual, a 14-year-old female student in her second year of secondary school, was arrested for possessing cannabis oil and drug paraphernalia.
Initial investigations suggest that drug trafficking syndicates provide free drugs to teenagers who then become addicted and unable to afford their own supply. These vulnerable individuals are coerced into participating in drug trafficking activities and bear the legal consequences.
Law enforcement agencies strongly urge citizens, especially young people, not to engage in illegal activities and to report any encounters with drug-related operations promptly.
